By the second day of my WWOOFing adventure the weather hadn’t improved, so we went to the beach! It did seem a tad counter intuitive but it was still really good fun :)
We went Zambujeira do Mar and Azenha do Mar (‘do Mar’ just means by the sea), which are within the Alentejo Natural Park and about a half an hour drive from the farm. This is all in the South of Portugal, just north of the Algarve. The surrounding area is full of fields of orange trees and a mountain range can be seen from the coast. I would’ve taken photos of the orange fields but this was all I could see:
It’s was all very scenic, really, even in the rain.
Here’s our mode of transport being nearly swept away by a torrent of water. Needless to say, I got my feet wet.
So we stopped off for a little coffee in a café and hoped that the rain would ease. And it did… for a minute or two!
We then went to a seafood restaurant where you can get a 3-course meal and a bottle of wine for about €15 per person. I had some of the best seafood I’ve ever had there and ate a pot mix of crab, shrimp, oysters and I can’t remember what else! It was delicious!
After this we headed back to Alfredo’s quinta (farm) and stopped off at a place called Odemira. Very picturesque!
The real work started the day after :)
